Christopher Ward

Senior Clinical Psychologist
STAP Approved Supervisor

Christopher is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience in counselling and psychological practice. He earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Queensland in 2009 and has since dedicated his career to supporting individuals, couples, and families through a wide range of psychological challenges.

His early work involved extensive experience with adolescents through telephone counselling services such as Kids Helpline, where he provided support on issues including family conflict, mental health struggles, and crisis intervention. He also worked with parents through Parentline, equipping them with strategies to navigate parenting challenges and strengthen family relationships.

Upon graduating, Christopher spent three years with Queensland Health, where he worked closely with individuals experiencing acute mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders. This experience provided him with a strong foundation in complex mental health care, crisis intervention, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Since 2011, Christopher has worked in private practice, conducting psychological assessments and providing therapy for a broad range of concerns. He has developed a particular interest in couples therapy and the management of sexual disorders, working with individuals and partners to address relationship difficulties, intimacy concerns, and sexual dysfunction. His approach is evidence-based, nonjudgmental, and tailored to each client’s needs, helping them rebuild trust, communication, and emotional connection.

Christopher also provides formal diagnostic assessments for ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children, teenagers, and adults, helping individuals and families gain a deeper understanding of their unique strengths and challenges while accessing appropriate support and interventions.

In addition to his work in private practice, Christopher has over a decade of experience supporting the veteran community. He provides therapy for individuals and couples through the Department of Veterans Affairs and Open Arms, helping veterans and their families navigate trauma, PTSD, adjustment difficulties, and relationship stress.

Christopher is well-versed in a range of therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Addressing thought patterns that contribute to distress and maladaptive behaviours.

  • Schema Therapy – Exploring deep-seated patterns developed in childhood and working towards healthier coping mechanisms.

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) – Integrating mindfulness techniques with cognitive therapy to reduce stress and prevent relapse in anxiety and depression.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples – Strengthening emotional bonds and improving relationship dynamics.

Christopher’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented. Whether working with individuals facing mental health challenges, couples seeking to reconnect, or veterans coping with the psychological effects of service, he is committed to helping clients build resilience, enhance their well-being, and create meaningful change in their lives.
